DOCUMENTARY

The Peaceful Weapon is a documentary about five musicians who decided that making good music was not enough.

Each of them, from India, Latvia, France, the USA and Sweden, has found a way to use their art as a force for change. Their individual journeys lead them to a small town in southern Italy, where they join 65 musicians from across the globe, including artists from countries currently at war with each other, to ask a simple but urgent question: can music actually make a difference?

THE Peaceful WEAPON

The film follows five protagonists, each rooted in a different world.

Ugo Nanni left his career as a glacier scientist to give glaciers a voice of their own, performing with their recorded sounds in concert halls around the world.

Dima Lisenko travels to wherever ecosystems are under threat. He creates music with the sounds of cetaceans to help protect the oceans.

Charu Hariharan uses music to give women in India a voice, working with communities where songs carry stories of struggle, resistance and survival.

Aaron English travels Europe performing intimate concerts and collecting instruments for young musicians in East Africa.

And Eric Forsmark, who came out of retirement with one idea: find musicians who care, and bring them together.

What connects them is not genre, language or background. It is a shared belief that one person, with enough passion, can take meaningful action and inspire others.

The convergence happens at the One Planet Festival in Giovinazzo, Puglia, where all five meet for the first time alongside 65 other musicians from 50 countries. Among them are artists from nations currently in armed conflict. Yet on this stage, they play together.

The Peaceful Weapon is not a protest film. It is a film about hope, and about proof. Proof that music can cut through the noise of passivity, nationalism and indifference. Proof that collaboration across borders is not naive. And proof that an older, stubborn individual with a true passion, together with friends who are skilled and enthusiastic, can set something in motion that matters.

All music in the film was created in collaboration by the artists featured. It is available on Spotify, Tidal and Apple Music.
